Bus passes will only be given according to Providence School Board policy. The following is the mileage requirements for student transportation:
- Elementary School: 1 mile and above
- Middle School: 1 ½ miles and above
- High School: 1 mile and above
Exceptions to this policy will only be for students with special needs. For medical issues, a student’s physician must submit a written document stating the reason why the student must be provided transportation. Please note that the document must be sent directly to the attention of: Donna O’Connor, 182 Thurbers Avenue, Providence, RI 02905. For all students who have a special education case manager, the request for transportation must come from that manager or a Special Education supervisor. RIPTA BUS PASS UPDATE
Beginning in November, Providence students’ paper RIPTA bus passes will all be replaced with new plastic WAVE smart cards. Your school will reload passes onto this card virtually each month, giving you access to ride the bus. Just tap the WAVE card on the RIPTA bus validators to pay for your trip.
DO NOT THROW THE WAVE CARD AWAY! IT IS A PERMANENT RECHARGEABLE CARD, AND IT WILL BE YOUR PASS WHILE YOU ARE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL.
Before you start riding, log onto wave.ripta.com to create an acount and register your card.
- Visit wave.ripta.com and click “Create Account.”
- Enter your email, create a 4-digit PIN and password.
- Click on “Add a Card” and follow the instructions.
