PROVIDENCE, RI – The Providence Public School District’s (PPSD) Career and Technical Education Office will be hosting four Industry Cluster Nights to promote opportunities in four priority sectors that are identified as high wage/high growth. They include information technology, construction, healthcare, and biomedical science.

 

PPSD’s Career and Technical Education Program, or CTE, is a focused educational experience that prepares students for both industry and higher education, offering multiple pathways to success. In turn, this program helps students become career-ready in these sectors, along with providing them the opportunity to take college-level courses at a high school level. They have the opportunity to transfer these credits over with them upon entering college. As of now, the Office of Career and Technical Education offers 24 programs in 12 Industry Clusters. There are about 1,600 students currently enrolled in the District’s CTE program.

 

“I am very proud of PPSD’s CTE program,” said Providence Schools Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez. “The various courses this program offers gives 8^th grade students the chance to explore different career opportunities they may be interested in pursuing, and furthering their education by taking these industry-specific courses during their high school years. It prepares them well for entering the workforce.”

 

The purpose of the Industry Cluster Nights is to inform 8^th grade students and their families about the various CTE programs that PPSD has to offer. The four Industry Cluster Nights will take place on different Thursday nights through the remainder of October, and on one Thursday in November. They will be held at various schools throughout the District:

 

• Information Technology – E-Cubed Academy (812 Branch Avenue) Thursday, October 13, at 6 p.m.
• Construction – PCTA (41 Fricker Street) Thursday, October 20, at 6 p.m.
• Healthcare – Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School (375 Adelaide Avenue) Thursday, October 27, at 6 p.m.
• BioMedical Science – W.B. Cooley/Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex (182 Thurbers Avenue) Thursday, November 3, at 6 p.m.

Escuelas Públicas de Providence invita a familias y estudiantes de grado 8 a explorar programas de educativos de carreras

 

PROVIDENCE, RI – La Oficina de Educación Técnica y Profesiones del Distrito de las Escuelas Públicas de Providence (PPSD) organizará cuatro Noches de Clústers Industriales para promover oportunidades en cuatro sectores prioritarios que se identifican como de alto salario/alto crecimiento.  Estos incluyen: tecnología de la información, construcción, atención médica y ciencias biomédicas.

 

El Programa de Educación Técnica y de Profesiones de PPSD, o CTE (por sus siglas en inglés), es una experiencia educativa enfocada que prepara a los estudiantes tanto para la industria como para la educación superior, ofreciendo múltiples vias hacia el éxito. A su vez, este programa ayuda a los estudiantes a prepararse para una carrera en estos sectores, además de brindarles la oportunidad de tomar cursos de nivel universitario a nivel de escuela secundaria. Tienen la oportunidad de transferir estos créditos en su ingreso a la universidad. Actualmente, la Oficina de Educación Técnica y de Profesiones ofrece 24 programas en 12 grupos industriales. Hay aproximadamente 1,600 estudiantes actualmente inscritos en el programa CTE del Distrito.

 

“Estoy muy orgulloso del programa CTE de PPSD”, dijo el superintendente de las escuelas de Providence, el Dr. Javier Montañez. “Los diversos cursos que ofrece este programa brindan a los estudiantes de 8.° grado la oportunidad de explorar diferentes oportunidades profesionales en las que pueden estar interesados ​​y mejorar su educación al tomar estos cursos específicos de la industria en sus años de escuela secundaria. Les da una buena preparación para ingresar a la fuerza laboral”.

 

El propósito de las Noches de Clústers Industriales es informar a los estudiantes de 8º grado y sus familias sobre los diversos programas CTE que PPSD tiene en su oferta. Las cuatro Noches de Clústers Industriales se llevarán a cabo en diferentes jueves por la noche durante el resto de octubre y un jueves en noviembre.  Estas se llevarán a cabo en varias escuelas en todo el Distrito:

 

• Tecnologia de la Información –E-Cubed Academy (812 Branch Avenue) jueves, octubre 13, a las 6 p.m.
