ATTENDANCE
At PCTA, we take attendance seriously and your student's success is our priority. Missing more than 1 day a month puts your student in academic jeopardy and at risk of becoming chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing more than 10% of the 180 school days.
If you know that your student will not be coming to school, please contact the school 401-456-9136 and let the front office know. You may leave a message. If your student is absent 2 consecutive days, they will need to bring in a doctor's note.
We will call home if a student is out two consecutive days if we have not heard from you. We will do a home visit if that goes to three consecutive days with no notice from a parent/guardian. If there continues to be no contact from a parent/guardian after 10 consecutive absences, the student will be removed from our roster.
We understand that emergencies arise but taking your student out of school during the school year for more than 10 consecutive days for anything other than medical or a life-threatening situation will result in your student being removed from our roster. You will then need to go to registration to attempt to re-register them. Please be aware that we do not hold student seats.
We always encourage families to make travel plans during the winter or spring breaks. This will not impact your student's learning and development and will not jeopardize their seat.
PCTA is a select school, and your student has worked hard to get into PCTA. We have a waitlist of students who want to be here. After 10 consecutive absences, your student's seat may be filled, and you would need to put them into another high school that has an opening.
