In the United States education system, social studies is the integrated study of multiple fields of social science and the humanities, including history, geography, and political science.

Grade Eight History at Esek Hopkins Middle School is a fascinating look at the history of the United States, beginning with the Articles of Confederation continuing through the Gilded Age.  Special emphasis is spent to discuss the drafting of the U.S. Constitution and the rights and responsibilities of Americans. Other notable topics include but are not limited to the Industrial Revolution, War of 1812, Investigations into Slavery in the U.S., and the American Civil War.  Current events and politics are always covered as they develop. Historical writing and critical thinking skills are our main focus.
