The Student Assistance Program at Classical High School was established to identify and help students who may be experiencing personal, school, or family problems. Sometimes adolescents can feel overwhelmed. They may think that no one else really understands how they feel or what they are going through. While not all problems can be fixed easily, sharing their burden will help them get through difficult times.
The student assistance counselor (SAC) is uniquely positioned to provide both individual and school-wide services that directly impact classroom instruction, behavior management, student safety, family support, and community relations. Direct services include:
- Individual student assessment
- Counseling and referral in areas of academic concerns, substance use, depression, stress management, conflict resolution, self-esteem, self-harm and anxiety.
In addition to school-wide assemblies and classroom presentations, Ms. Best also serves as an advisor to the student groups: Students Against Destructive Decisions, Natural Helpers and Classical High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance
