Governor Christopher DelSesto Middle School is one of seven public middle schools within the Providence Public School District. The school officially opened its doors as Springfield Elementary in the fall of 1999 to 450 students. In time, the complex would grow to serve nearly 1,000 middle-level students in grades six through eight and was renamed by Mayor Cianci in February of 2002 to honor Christopher DelSesto, the 64th Governor of Rhode Island. Nestled along Springfield Street in Providence's Hartford neighborhood, it sits just nearby Neutaconkanut Park, Carnevale Elementary School, and Olneyville Square. It's also a short drive from institutions of higher learning like Rhode Island College and Providence College.
