Mr. Luis Fernandez

What is your educational background? Where did you obtain your college degree? Undergrad? Graduate, etc.?

I completed my undergraduate studies in Barcelona, Spain through the State University of New York at Oswego in 2005, earning a BA in Spanish and a minor in Mathematics. After returning from Spain, I began my education career at New York University (NYU) where I earned a Master's degree in TESOL and Foreign Language, Teaching K-12 in 2006. In the fall of 2006, I became a New York City public school teacher. Then, my family moved to the Providence area in 2015 where I continued my teaching career. 

How long you’ve been working in PPSD?

I have been working in PPSD since the fall of 2016.

How long have you worked in education? 

I have worked  in education since 2006.

Where did you work prior to PPSD?

I worked in NYC public schools and Fall River public schools.

How long you’ve been a principal or an assistant principal? 

I started my school administration career as an assistant Principal at Nathanael Greene Middle School in 2019 after completing Principal Residency through the Center for Leadership and Education Equity (CLEE). I was an assistant principal at DelSesto Middle School during the 2021-2022 school year, and I just completed my first year as a Principal at Gilbert Stuart. 

What is your philosophy/vision for your school and for the upcoming school year?

Our school's leadership team and faculty will prepare the students of Gilbert Stuart Middle School for college or the career of their choice.
