Gilbert Stuart Middle School serves approximately 1,000 students in grades 6-8. Gilbert Stuart is one of three Providence public middle schools involved in the national Turnaround Arts program that leverages the arts to increase student engagement. Gilbert Stuart Middle School staff members firmly believe that college and career preparation begins with students in the middle grades. The school strives to connect students with adults in a loving, competitive, and respectful school environment, so that they will be engaged and perform better academically, socially and behaviorally. New this year, Gilbert Stuart offers a freshmen strand of dual language immersion in English and Spanish. The school hosts an after-school hub that includes the National Honor Society, mentoring and tutorial, a Gentlemen’s Club, STEM Programs, Black Girls Rock, Beat the Streets Wrestling. It also collaborates with academic and community organizations, including the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The school also has an equity and school culture coordinator to help liaise between the community and students. Multilingual Learner, general education, and Special Education services are offered.

An eighth grader at a Providence middle school has been perfecting his piano skills and his teachers and peers have been nothing but supportive. Christian Rivera, 14, moved from Puerto Rico to Providence about two years ago. He attends the Gilbert Stuart Middle School and all his life, he's had a love for instruments.
