Anjel Newmann serves as the Vice President of the Providence School Board and is a proud parent of a Providence Public Schools student. Professionally, she is the Co-Executive Director and Youth Program Director at AS220, a nonprofit community arts center in Providence. She also teaches art, design, and social justice courses at local colleges and universities.

In February 2025, Newmann was appointed to the Providence School Board, representing Region 2 under the district’s new hybrid governance model, which includes both elected and appointed members. The following month, she was elected Vice President of the Board.

Beyond her work in education and administration, Newmann was the subject of a mural by internationally renowned artist Shepard Fairey, marking his 100th mural. The artwork, featuring her alongside her quote, "Creativity is the mechanism of self-liberation," reflects her deep commitment to community engagement and the arts.
