Diagneris "Nery" Garcia is a proud alumna of Providence Public Schools and longtime resident of the capital city of Providence. After graduating from Classical High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations: Latin America/Regional Politics and Cultural Anthropology from Boston University, and a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management from Northeastern University.
Ms. Garcia has a long, versatile, nonprofit career developing and implementing programs, services, and events while providing capacity-building and communications support to individuals, families, organizations, and communities across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She has worked in a wide range of interdisciplinary fields, including health and human services; education (early childhood, public K-12, post-secondary, and adult); workforce development; and community engagement. She's currently employed as Director of Communications for Strategies for Children, a research, policy, and advocacy nonprofit organization working to ensure that Massachusetts invests the resources needed for all children, from birth to age five, to access high-quality early education programs that prepare them for success in school and life.
Ms. Garcia joined the Providence Public Schools School Board in April of 2016 and continues to serve as vice president and co-chair of the Health & Wellness Committee.
