Providence Public Schools hosts two prekindergarten programs: Integrated Prekindergarten and RI Prekindergarten.
RI Pre-Kindergarten
RI PRE-KINDERGARTEN (RI Pre-K) serves students who are four years old by September 1st. The full day program is a lottery-based, free, high-quality program funded and overseen by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Families can view RI Pre-K Available Programs on the RIDE website here.
WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES?
- Your child must be four years old by September 1st of the current school year.
HOW DOES LOTTERY WORK?
- Applicants are selected via a random drawing of names.
IS THERE TRANSPORTATION?
- Free transportation is available for students living greater than one mile from school.
Integrated Pre-Kindergarten
Serving students aged 3-5, Integrated Pre-K is a lottery based pre-kindergarten program that is open to students of all needs. It is an integrated classroom where students needing specialized services learn and grow alongside their peers. Dual Certified teachers follow the Creative Curriculum and schedule.
Full day and half day programs are available.
WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES?
- Your child must be three years old by September 1st of the current school year.
- Your child must have completed the Child Outreach Screening prior to application.

WHAT IS A CHILD OUTREACH SCREENING?
- It is a free program that provides information about your child’s development in the areas of vision, hearing, speech/language, general development and social emotional development.
- Screenings are recommended every year for all three, four, and five-year-old children.
