Congratulations to Domingo Pablo Gutierrez, a junior at Mt. Pleasant High School, for being awarded a Gold Key for Excellence in Visual Arts in the Scholastic Art Competition for 2018. More than 50 public, private and parochial secondary schools in Rhode Island participated (which includes grades 7-12). Over 200 artworks received either a Gold or Silver Key Award, and Gold Key winners are forwarded to New York for the national finals competition. Finalists will be awarded 60 scholarships to art universities and institutes throughout the country. Domingo's still life drawing was one of 500 entries received in the Drawing & Illustration category alone and among 84 winners selected. He is the only student in the Providence Public School District to receive this prestigious award. Attached are photos from the awards ceremony which took place this past Sunday at Rhode Island College. Let's congratulate Domingo on this great achievement! He completed most of this still life in Ms. Fontes Drawing & Painting class and finished at home over winter break. Domingo is very focused on improving his skills in art and this past Fall, he was accepted into the RISD Project Open Door program which he attends faithfully every Friday and Saturday. It took many hours of dedication, self motivation and exceptional attention to detail for Domingo to complete this amazing work of art. If anyone wishes to see the Exhibition, it will be on display at the Alex and Ani Art Center at Rhode Island College until Saturday, January 27th (gallery hours are from 8am to 10pm
