Equity Advisory Council

Do you believe that all students should have the same opportunities to succeed in school, regardless of their background or circumstances? Would you like to work with others to close gaps in educational attainment and outcomes? Do you want to make a difference for young people? If you answered yes to these questions, then the Equity Advisory Council may be a good fit for you.

The Equity Advisory Council consists of education and community leaders dedicated to centering equity. It includes representatives from a variety of communities and organizations (including parents and students), working collaboratively on equity initiatives. Together, they work to ensure that all students have equitable opportunities for high-quality and rigorous educational experiences that lead to successful post-graduate outcomes. The Equity Advisory Council advocates for policy changes and systemic reforms to address inequities.

Established in December 2022, the Council has engaged in data analysis, policy development, training, and program review. It has provided feedback on existing programs and initiatives designed to enhance equity. Its diversity has resulted in rich discussions that have included different perspectives and experiences. Through their advocacy, the Council has been able to have a tremendous impact, which has resulted in the development of several new policies as well as extensive revisions of existing policies.

Our spring meeting will be held on April 8, 2025, from 4:45 PM-6:15 PM. We will meet in the PD Tech Room (ground floor), at the District Office located at 797 Westminster St. Providence RI 02903. Light refreshments will be served. If you would like to join the Equity Advisory Council, contact us at equity@ppsd.org.
