Our commitment and approach to maintaining an accessible website

Providence Public School District (PPSD) is committed to:

  • Maintaining an accessible website.

  • Ensuring that this website achieves “Level AA” conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, to comply with the National Disability Authority’s Code of Practice on Accessibility of Public Services and Information Provided by Public Bodies. (The National Disability Authority’s Centre for Excellence in Universal Design has an introduction to policy and legislation relevant to Universal Design in Ireland.)

  • Ensuring that all new information on the website will achieve “Level AA” conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.

  • Including accessibility when we procure 3rd-party systems or upgrades to existing systems.

PPSD is making ongoing improvements to achieve Level AA conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. In 2023, PPSD made updates to numerous pages under the guidance of the Office of Civil Rights. The district migrated their website in July 2025 to a new Content Management System that will include tools within the content management system, along with a plan for regular auditing, to achieve Level AA conformance

Accessibility features of this website

PPSD incorporates website accessibility standards into the design and maintenance of our website to ensure accessibility for all people regardless of ability or method of access.

To help us make our website a positive place for everyone, we've been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user-friendly for everyone. The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA) and we’ve chosen Level AA as the target for our website.

This website has been designed to meet compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 which supports web accessibility to allow more accessible and usable web environments. This includes:

  • Changing the size of text.

  • Adequate color contrast;

  • Uses of descriptive links and images;

  • Adaptable to different screen sizes, including mobile phones, and

  • Use of plain and simple language.
