The Providence School Board is a hybrid governing body composed of ten members, including five elected by the residents of Providence and five appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Providence City Council. The Board is responsible for the governance and oversight of the Providence Public School District.

The Board's primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing the vision, mission, goals, and strategic direction of the Providence Public Schools;
  • Adopting and monitoring the District's annual operating budget and ensuring responsible fiscal stewardship;
  • Hiring, supervising, supporting, and evaluating the Superintendent of Schools; and
  • Adopting, reviewing, and overseeing district policies, rules, and governance protocols that promote student achievement, accountability, transparency, and organizational excellence.
