Reimagining Providence Schools
As of November 1, 2019, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) exercises authority over the Providence Public School District (PPSD), with a goal to develop and implement a Turnaround Plan for the city’s education system. To deliver on this goal, Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Angélica Infante-Green and the RIDE team are engaged with parents, educators, students, community members and experts to develop a shared vision for the future of Providence schools.
During a 100-day process between December and March, RIDE will convene three Community Design Teams to develop initiatives that will be included in the long-term Turnaround Plan for PPSD. These community-nominated and community-led teams will focus their work on the three priorities the Commissioner identified in her vision for education in Rhode Island. These priorities are: World-Class Talent, Excellence in Learning, and Engaged Communities.
