Summer Reading for 7th Grade Students |
You are required to read a total of two (2) books this summer. You must read one book from the list below and are free to choose another book that does not appear on the list. In addition, you are required to complete one of the activities below for each book. Please choose a different activity for each novel. When you return to school in the fall, your English teacher will collect the activities, score them, and average them in as a part of your 1st quarter grade. Happy reading!
Choose book one from the titles below:
Double Dutch by Draper Heaven by Johnson Rumble Fish by Hinton Taking Sides by Soto Zeely by Hamilton
Activity #1: Pretend you are the main character who has simply vanished before the last chapter of the book. Using the point of view of your character, write a letter to another character in the book telling them what went on in your life during the last chapter. This must be two (2) pages.
Activity #2: So…where are you? In two (2) pages describe the setting of the novel. Also describe where the major character is in two different scenes or chapters from the book. Draw a detailed map of any mountains, streams, rives, monuments, streets, etc. that are mentioned in the scenes. Use crayons or markers to illustrate the map. Be sure to include the title of the novel, the author’s name and the particular scene or chapter you have illustrated.
Activity #3: Where could you enter the novel you have just finished reading and do the most good? Choose two parts of the novel where you can help the major characters. Explain how you can help them, what your character’s name will be, and how they react towards you. Next, rewrite the two scenes to include your character and explain how the course of events will change. This should be two (2) pages in length.
