Last Meeting: 4/5/2006 At our last meeting we invited guest speaker Osiris Harrell to address the students on dress code, respect for themselves, others and property. He also spoke about cuts in the budget, after school programs and school pride. The students in attendance listened intently and voiced their concerns and issues. They also asked many questions. This was a new idea for a PTO meeting by the PTO secretary (Regina Peer) and it was a big success. When the meeting was ajorned, we held a big raffle with over 10 prizes given away followed by an awards presentation. It was a great night... We are still looking for new ides on funraising.
If you have any suggestions, please, send them to school with your child, present them at a PTO meeting or call the school and talk to or leave a messge for a PTO leader. The current events are as follows:
1. We decided to have a "Free Movie Night" twice a year and snacks to be sold by the PTO. 2. Solicitation of donations from local businesses. 3. A talent show--pictures taken for a $10.00 fee. 4. School Newletter (Chalk Talk): This has begun. Ask your child for the monthly newsletter the first week of each month (free). 5. "Pennies for Bridgham" drive and faculty "Dress Down Days"... 6. Monthly bake sales (first bakes sale was a success on September 15, 2005). Our recent 8th grade bake sale on April 28, 2006 earned the graduation class over $200.00. 7. Next PTO meeting date: May 10, 2006 @ 6pm-8pm.
Have a great month everyone... Students, get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast and come to school prepared to learn...

Getting Parents Involved: parents too busy, not interested unless it pertains to their child, transportation, getting the meeting dates and times out, possibly changing the date to Saturdays, and providing child care were discussed.
Events: The PTO's last 2 bake sales will be held on: May 5, 2006 and June 2, 2006. Check the Bridgham Newsletter (The Bridgham Gazette) for futher details and date changes. New Ideas: We hope to utilize the school wide phone list to call parents and to invite them in to volunteer with PTO events, lunch room detail, making colorful flyers, S.I. T. meetings and field trips etc...
Dr. Williams suggested we use a consistent color for all flyers, as in the collor yellow, so parents can recognize a PTO flyer when it arrives home in the student's backpack! |
