SCHOOL CHOICE CHECKLIST
GRADES K, 6 AND 9

  The school choice process for grades K, 6 and 9 involves 3 simple steps:  
     
  Checkbox Explore your school options:  
   •  Identify your neighborhood school(s) by calling the Student Registration & Placement Center (401) 456-9297.  
     
   •  Review the School Profiles (available online here or at the Student Registration Center) for information about location and school hours, programs offered, and assessment results for the schools you are interested in your child attending.  
     
   •  Visit the PPSD website to access individual school’s web pages for more information.  
     
   •  Attend “Open Schools” sessions to visit schools of interest and ask questions you may have; schedule individual school visits.  
     
  Checkbox Decide your school choices and the order of preference.  
     
     1 = first choice school  
     2 = second choice school  
     3 = third choice school  
     4 = fourth choice school  
     
   * Remember, if your child’s educational program (for example, ESL) is NOT offered at a school, that choice becomes INVALID and will not be considered (remaining choices are bumped up in preference).  
     
  Some schools may have more students selecting it than seats available – by listing four choices, you will increase the chance that your child will be placed in one of the listed schools.  Note:  Choosing the same school more than once will not improve your chances of getting that school - it only reduces your choices.  
     
  Checkbox Complete a school choice form and submit by the designated due date:  
     
   •  Current PPSD PreK, grade 5 and grade 8 and current Providence residents in grade 5 and grade 8 at local private schools: Choice forms will be distributed and collected in student’s current homeroom  
     
   •  NEW to Providence: Parents/guardians must visit the Student Registration & Placement Center to register their child and receive a school choice form  
     
  Notification of school choice placement is by mail.  Please consult with the PPSD website for approximate notification dates.
