Goals and Objectives

Goals
The Providence Academy of International Studies (PAIS) will be a small, effective secondary school that:
    Improves student achievement by:
  • preparing all students for college or other post-secondary education; and
  • promoting students' knowledge and understanding of world regions, cultures, and international issues.

    Builds student capacities to:
  • communicate in languages other than English; and
  • learn from and work with others from different cultural backgrounds.

    Increases parent and family engagement by:
  • creating opportunities for families to be involved in the work of PAIS; and
  • drawing on international experience and heritage of family members.

Objectives
To meet the above goals, PAIS will be guided by the following objectives:

  • An intellectual mission focused on international studies that targets educational excellence for every student.
  • A curriculum that meets state and national standards and integrates international content across all subject areas, at all grade levels.
  • Engaging, inquiry-based instruction and multiple forms of assessment that promote learning with understanding.
  • The opportunity for students to study one or more foreign languages.
  • Innovative uses of technology that support instruction and linkages to schools and institutions around the world.
  • A school culture and extended community that promotes a sense of belonging for every student and supports students' personal growth.
  • Internships and community service opportunities at internationally oriented businesses, civic organizations, cultural institutions, and universities.
  • Engagement of faculty and families in continuous, high-quality professional development stressing promotion of students' international capacities.
  • Opportunities for student and teacher international travel and exchanges.
