Graduation Requirements for the Classes of 2009, 2010 and 2011 |
1. Credits through course work
2. End of course examinations
3. Participation in NECAP state testing
4. Graduation portfolio containing evidence of proficiency in:
English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, the Arts, and Technology
Applied learning skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, research, communication, and civic responsibility
Civic and Social expectations (Demonstrated through a minimum number of completed hours)
In order to graduate students must attain a minimum of 24 credits in six core areas of study. A credit is earned in a full year course meeting 5 days per week. Each student must show proficiency in:
English Language Arts 4 credits
English 1 (1 credit) English 2 (1 credit) English 3 (1 credit) English 4 (1 credit)
Mathematics 4 credits
Algebra 1 (1 credit) Geometry (1 credit) Algebra 2 (1 credit) Advanced Math or Pre-calculus (1 credit)
Science
Biology (1 credit) Chemistry (1 credit) Conceptual Physics or Physics (1 credit)
Students must be successful on the state science assessment which comes on line in 2008.
Social Science 3 credits
World History (1 credit) US History (1 credit) Law and Society or Psychology (1 credit)
Foreign Language 2 credits of the same language
Languages offered at this time (2 credits)
French Italian Spanish
Physical Education (2 credits) Each year .5 credit
Electives (6 credits)
to include Fine Arts and Technology English electives Mathematics electives Social Science electives Science electives
Students must participate in state assessments for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Each student's results will count toward graduation. Students unsuccessful on the state assessments will have a number of opportunities to demonstrate proficiency in all Core Subjects using course grades, projects, portfolios and performances.
