Arts Curriculum

Theater Courses
Theater I Students in this course learn basic improvisational techniques, movement, vocal training, and ensemble work. They write and perform short student written work as well as read and study published one-act plays and scenes. They attend performances by local professional companies and write critiques about them. Students learn about theater production and are introduced to aspects of set, lighting, sound, and make-up.
Theater II Students continue their study of movement, voice, and improvisatinal technique. They perform scenes from modern theater and learn the craft of creating characters within a script. Basic play analysis is begun, and theater history is studied. Students attend performances and critique the work. They will also perform a modern monologue and will show their work in the form of performance exhibitions.
Theater III Students learn auditioning skills and will perform a modern and a Shakespeare monologue and sonnet. Students will perticipate in public performances and arts sharings. They will perform scenes from various periods and styles. Students learn more advanced movement techniques, dialects, and ensemble work: as well as are givem the opportunity to intern in areas of theater production. They will attend professional performances and be expected to keep a journal of their experiences.
Theater IV Follows much the same format at Theater III except that these students have the added responsibility of a leadership role in the ensemble. The exit exhibition requires seniors to direct, asst. direct, choreograph, or design the lights, set, props, or costumes for a production or scene.
Intro Theater Elective This course is a survey of theater arts. Students participate in improvisational scenes. They read plays from different genres. They learn about how plays are produced and will study some theater history.
