Get a head start on reading for next year!

summer reading Because students need to read at least 4 outside reading books each year, you may want to get a head start on next year’s required reading by doing it in the summer. We don’t yet know what will be used as proof, so the best way to keep track of your reading would be to use a small notebook and write down the title, author and a list of main characters when you begin the book, a few sentences to summarize as you read each chapter, and maybe a brief paragraph when you finish about your thoughts or feelings about the book. When you get back to school, we can tell you what the assignment will be for “proof” of your reading.

The administrators, teachers and staff of The Providence School Department strongly encourage parents to read to and with their children each day during the summer vacation. The following is a list of books that your children may enjoy. The authors whose works are listed have created many age and interest appropriate titles. Feel free to read not only the specific title listed but other works by the authors identified. These books can be obtained at your local public library or at a bookstore.
