SOAR Into After School
soar
What is SOAR?
SOAR (Student Opportunities After School Resources) is our after school program at Feinstein High School. SOAR strives to increase the social-emotional competency of students and increase achievement by building a community of life long learners. SOAR partners with community agencies to provide diverse programs for students and their families to increase academic support, develop character and leadership skills, increase family life skills, and provide recreation and enrichment activities.

SOAR offers three sessions a year---fall, winter and spring. There are also some opportunities during school vacations and in the summer. In the past we have offered over 40 different classes….from sports to academics to leadership to fine arts to health …etc. etc. Many classes are taught at Feinstein. However, we also offer courses outside of the building at many community sites. The SOAR program has taught dozens of students to swim at a nearby Boys and Girls Club, we had 33 seniors get college credit by taking courses at Community College of Rhode Island, we taught over 20 students to sail on beautiful Narragansett Bay, and we had eight artistic students participate in weekly art workshops at the Rhode Island School of Design, four of these students at RISD were eventually awarded full scholarships for a summer workshop there.

Half of our after school programs are taught by Feinstein faculty and the other half is from the community. Fortunately all are enthusiastic, talented, caring and eager to work with you, our students.

Who can participate?
Anyone! Well, any student enrolled at Feinstein High School is eligible to participate in the after school programs. Not too fast though, if your grades are not up to snuff and your team teachers put you on academic probation then you cannot participate until you start doing better in school. If you have no problems keeping up with your work, then great, you can come any time to any program!

Before each session the SOAR staff will distribute a brochure. The brochure includes course descriptions and schedules of each course. It also contains “Coming Attractions,” so you can keep an eye out for more exciting courses being offered in the future.

We have a friendly, open door policy. Anyone who wants to stop by to chat or to offer suggestions is always welcome!
