Classical High School Community Association

Who We Are

CHSCA is made up of parents, teachers, administrators, alumni, community and business leaders whose mission is to provide advocacy and support for the Classical High School learning and social environment through various activities that include informational and social networking for parents and teachers, as well as fundraising to support the school's programs.

We Want You!

Classical High School is an extraordinary learning institution, with a lengthy tradition of academic excellence. We are fortunate to have an outstanding administration, faculty and staff. However, for students to achieve their full potential, parents MUST play an active role in their child's education. Why join CHSCA?

~ Networking: It's an opportunity to get to know other Classical families that share similar values, dreams and aspirations.

~ Partnerships: It's getting to know your child's principal, teachers, coaches, moderators, and councilors on a whole new level. As parents, our involvement with Classical sends a message that we recognize the importance of what the faculty and staff do, that we will work with them and support them as a team working towards common goals: the best possible education for our children and the well deserved recognition of Classical High School as an institution.

~ Advocacy: We are all aware of the funding issues facing our public schools today. Budget reductions impact not only the basic educational needs, but also the extracurricular activities that are essential in the development of social skills and the talents given to our children. We want our voices heard! And as a large, active group, our collective voice may be better heard by those who control how our tax dollars are spent.

~ Information: CHSCA Meetings are typically chock full of valuable information on curriculum, extra curricular activities, planning for college, etc. Past meetings have included presentations by the Superintendent of Public Schools, the Mayor of Providence, and the President of the Providence Teachers Union. The intent is always to keep the parents up to speed and provide a basis for action where required. It's also an opportunity to kick back and share a soft drink or a coffee with a fellow parent.

~ For The Fun of It: CHSCA will be scheduling events and activities just to get out and be with friends and neighbors. A night at the theatre is already in the works and we are certainly open to ideas, suggestions and help. Faculty/Parent basketball games? Karaoke Nights? Wine Tasting? PawSox? Picnics? You name it. The sky's the limit. All you need to do is join!

Many Thanks...

We would be remiss if we didn't extend a special thanks to Guy Pirolli who stepped down as President of CHSCA last June. Guy was an effective leader and, most especially, a strong advocate of the parents and students during his four years in office. He spent countless hours working with parents, city officials, the faculty, the staff and the District for the betterment of the Classical community. The good news is that we certainly have not seen the last of Guy. Not only will Guy continue as a member of CHSCA, he is also heading up the Classical Alumni Association and is doing equally wonderful things with that fine organization. We are confident under Guy's leadership; the Alumni Association will thrive and be a source of additional financial resources for Classical.
