COMMISSIONER'S VISIT 2009: Parent Meeting
Tuesday February 10th from 12:00-1:00 in Room 104
Nathanael Greene Middle School will be visited by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) the week of February 10th. Under the leadership of Dr. Nicole Thomas, administration, and staff, all of Greene's classrooms, offerings, and programs will be observed by a committee of educators from across the district and the state. Throughout the course of this year, Nathanael Greene's faculty has undergone a 'self study'-a comprehensive look at our school in terms of teaching and learning. The focus of the self-study and the visit centers around the following question:
What are the ways that Greene, as a school, ensures that instruction is effective in both reading and writing?
Several groups will be asked to visit and be interviewed by the RIDE committee including community partners, students, administrators, and department heads. I am cordially inviting all Nathanael Greene parents to attend the Parent Meeting on Tuesday February 10th from 12:00-1:00 in Room 104.
Sample Questions:
Does the school make you feel welcome?
Does your child like to come to school? How does your child perceive his or her learning?
How is your child challenged as a learner at this school?
Is there a person in the school who you or your child can go to for extra support or when there is a problem?
What is the greatest strength of the school, and if you had one wish for the school what would it be?
The Nathanael Greene Middle School Parent Teachers Organization (PTO)is an open membership organization of the parents, guardians, teachers, and administrators of students at Nathanael Greene. Our purpose is to provide the best possible education to our children and to build a safe and lasting learning community at Greene.
Thank you to all who participated in the snack mix fundraiser in December. All proceeds will benefit Nathanael Greene Middle School.

Meeting Information.
Nathanael Greene Middle School PTO Meetings are normally held once a month in the school library and usually are scheduled with a schoolwide event. Light refreshments are served. Meeting information is posted on the PTO Calendar and under Planned Events.

We request that you fill out a PTO Registration Form. This provides us your contact information to keep you informed of upcoming events. Additionally, it provides us insights to your interests and concerns. You may send the registration form in to school with your child, or mail it to:
