Criterion-Based Hiring and Staffing Assignment Process
Providence Schools is excited to implement a new criterion-based hiring process whereby building administrators, in conference with fully trained school-based interview teams, will make their own hiring decisions. The new hiring process is being immediately implemented in six schools to fill vacancies for the coming school year, and will be implemented in all schools for the 2010-2011 school year. The new hiring process is predicated on mutual consent, whereby both the teacher and administrator must agree to the placement of the teacher into an assignment. The interview committees will utilize a criterion-based interviewing process that assesses applicant skills in the following domains:

* Teachers know their subjects and teach them successfully
* Teachers create culturally and developmentally-appropriate lessons
* Teachers behave professionally as classroom managers, colleagues, and educational leaders for a diverse pool of learners
* Teachers utilize assessment data to guide instruction and plan for the future
* Teachers communicate well and are knowledgeable about and committed to the extended school community
