MLK Students Work Was on Display at RISD |
Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School students have partnered with the RISD Museum for a student art show that runs through March 4. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students created collages after studying the work of Romare Bearden - the collages are on display in the museum's community space. MLK art teacher Ms, Katrina Schroeder coordinated the event. On Saturday, February 23, the RISD museum hosted the exhibit along with a celebration of African-American and African arts. A family workshop was taught by Cynthia Ross Meeks, and African dancers and drummers performed in the auditorium. Third-grade parent Terri Spisso says, "A big thanks to Ms. Schroeder for her hard work in coordinating the MLK Free-for-all Saturday at the RISD Museum. The museum scavenger hunt, hands on activities, and African drumming performance were great - but not as fantastic as seeing our MLK students' works of art hanging in an art museum!" |
