Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Georgia on January 15, 1929. He became a Baptist minister known for his compelling speeches and for being a leader of the civil rights movement in the United States. Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts In 1964. His legacy is now recalled yearly on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national holiday which was first celebrated in 1986.
