Rochel Coleman, storyteller, performed for the school on Dec. 4, 2007. His show, entitled, "I, Nat Love", tells the story of a black cowboy in the 1800s. The fifth graders were treated to a workshop with him, that tied in to their study of Westward Expansion.

Coleman Crenshaw will be working with Kindergarteners in December. He works with what's called a "community-based storytelling model", in which students create characters based on their own lives or those of people in their community. They draw them, and then an adult acts out scenes using those characters. Mr. Crenshaw draws inspiration for this project from his work on the Manton Avenue project.

Community MusicWorks continues to enthrall the students with their very interactive performances. The four performers do workshops with the kids and do performances that have given them a great appreciation for classical music and the importance of music in education. This relationship was formed by several teachers, parents and CMW and is supported by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council of the Arts. It is in its second year, and we hope to continue it for another.

Worlds of Wonder, a program done in the 4th and 6th grades (check if others), is a collaboration between the RISD Museum and the Providence Public Library. Meris visits each classroom for two hour-long sessions of art exploration and literacy instruction that are inspired by works of art from the Museum and by books from the Providence Public Library. Field trips to the RISD Museum of Art are included in this grant. Met Life Foundation Museum Connections Programs provides funding for Worlds of Wonder.
