Mission Statement
The mission of Vartan Gregorian School at Fox Point is to promote learning by maintaining a respectful environment, meeting individual students’ needs, and instilling a sense of responsibility that will extend beyond the school setting.

We believe:
• that mutual respect is the foundation of learning
• that parents, teachers, children and community must share in the responsibility of education
• that each child can learn and has a worthwhile contribution
• in sincere praise and validation of children’s success
• in fostering cooperation
• in standards for student discipline
• in building trust among all responsible for education
• in high expectations for success
• in advancing the awareness of commonalities and differences among cultures

To complement our mission, we have four major expectations: Respect, Responsibility, Achievement and Safety. All rules in school fall into these four categories. All faculty and staff teach, model, and practice these expectations with students throughout the school day.

Please refer to the District Parent Handbook for the policies and procedures regarding discipline in the Providence Public Schools.

Who is Vartan Gregorian?

Vartan Gregorian is the former president of Brown University (1989-97), who currently heads the Carnegie Corporation in New York. In 1997, he was honored for raising the quality of the city’s public schools by renaming the Fox Point School the Vartan Gregorian School at Fox Point. The dedication recognized Gregorian’s service and commitment to education and cemented a special relationship between our elementary school and Brown University, whose students have nurtured and mentored our children during the past decade.

Mr. Gregorian remains actively involved with the school and has given thousands of dollars to its improvement. Thanks to his leadership and our partnership with Brown, the school has benefited in many ways: we have received playground equipment; each classroom is paired with a Brown sports team to work together on activities throughout the year; and through Project Eye-to-Eye, a group of Brown learning-disabled students work with our LD children.
