The Alternate Diploma Evening Program This program is designed to allow students who have twelve or more high school credits and have withdrawn from school to earn their high school diploma.The program requirements are as follows:
- the student must be a Providence resident;
- the student must have officially withdrawn from the 11th or 12th grade; and
- the student must be 16-21 years of age.
The program runs from October-June on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30PM. After a transcript/credit analysis has been made by the program director, a plan of action is developed which outlines what the student needs to graduate. The student then decides to attend the program and the program counselor schedules the student into his/her classes. The program has an open enrollment policy until April. Each student must have twelve credits to be accepted into the program.
Credit Recovery Program This program offers students that are enrolled in a Providence high school a two credit recovery opportunity. However, the student must earn his/her one or two credits prior to their school's graduation.
The program requirements are as follows:
- the student must be enrolled in a Providence high school as a 12th grader;
- the student must need only one or two credits to graduate; and
- the student needs permission from school personnel to attend the credit recovery program.
The credit recovery program runs on the same days and times as the Alternate Diploma Evening Program.
Rhode Island Training School Outreach Services This program offers credits to those Providence students who are in the Rhode Island Training School. The program allows these students to earn their high school diploma through the Alternate Diploma Evening Program.
The program is offered through the Rhode Island Training School Guidance Department, under Ken Lewis’s direction in conjunction with the Providence School Department. Both the program director and the director of Student Support meet six times over the course of the school year to review student’s transcripts and course selections.
