What is the Providence Local Advisory Committee? The Local Advisory Committee (LAC) is a group of Providence parents, teachers, school administrators and related service providers (social workers, psychologists, speech/language pathologists, etc.) working together on behalf of children with special needs.
We are a resource for parents as well as for special education staff, helping them deliver the best and most appropriate services to the children in their care. |
| We do this by: |
•
explaining the individual education program (IEP) process and available services so that parents can become part of their children’s education; |
•
informing administrators, teachers and special education service providers about federal and state laws to guarantee compliance with those laws; and |
•
bringing together parents and professionals with similar experiences for mutual support and assistance. |
LAC's Mission |
| The LAC’s mission is to improve all children’s access to a quality education. If you’d like to know more about your rights as a special needs parent, or help us expand outreach to other parents, please contact us directly or join our next focus group to discuss matters relating to special education. We will provide translation and child care. |
