Overview of PPSD Parent Engagement Plan
The ultimate goal of parent engagement is that parents have a strong voice in the education of their children, and that community members, agencies and businesses work with schools to provide students and their families with the necessary services and programs to support the full realization of their dreams.

To achieve this goal, the district has developed a framework with three primary objectives:
to ensure that parents receive adequate and appropriate information about how their children are doing in school and are informed about all district initiatives and policies;
to ensure that parents are being given every opportunity to be involved in their children’s learning in school and at home;
and, to ensure that parents are empowered partners working together with the school department to ensure that their children receive a quality education.

Informing Parents:
To ensure that parents receive timely, accurate and complete information about their children’s performance, school based activities and initiatives, district policies and initiatives, and general information on parenting and healthy child development.

Objective 1: Parents will be given the tools and resources to understand the progress of their children’s academic performance.
Objective 2: Parents will receive timely, comprehensive and accurate information to have a thorough understanding about major operational and procedural issues of the district.
Objective 3: Parents will receive timely and accurate responses to general and issue-specific inquiries, as well as timely and satisfactory resolution to problems.
Objective 4: Parents will be provided with district-wide correspondence that is in an understandable format and language.
Objective 5: Parents will be given pertinent information regarding healthy child development.

Involving Parents:
To ensure that parents are given all necessary information and resources to be actively involved in their children’s education, school activities and district initiatives and activities.

Objective 1: Parents will know about all opportunities to be involved in their children’s education, schools and district-wide initiatives
Objective 2: Each school will have an active, organized parent group.
Objective 3: Each school will have parent participation in appropriate decision making processes.
Objective 4: Parents will be given the tools and resources to support their children’s academic achievement at home.
Objective 5: Parents will be welcomed into every school building and be made to feel comfortable, respected and valued.

Empowering Parents:
Parents must not only be informed and involved but they must also be empowered to ensure that their individual and collective voices are being heard and responded to.

Objective 1: Ensure that parents have direct organized access to the Superintendent and School Board.
Objective 2: Provide parents with training opportunities to strengthen their parent leadership skills.
