Community Partnerships
Each and every day, our schools work hard to provide challenging learning opportunities that help students develop academically and emotionally. However, the schools do not operate in isolation. They are part of the fabric of the larger community, and in many ways, they need the effort of the entire community to succeed in educating Providence’s next generation.

Recognizing the importance of community involvement, the Providence School Department set a primary goal of increasing parent and public engagement. All community members and stakeholders are welcomed to partner with Providence Schools in efforts to increase student achievement and provide enrichment programs for all Providence students.

Developing strong community partnerships is a way to reach this goal together. Over the past two years, the office of Community Parnterships in the Division of Parent & Public Engagement has worked diligently to form community partnerships that are relevant and sustainable. Through the community partnership application process, the department sought to design procedures for partnering that will clarify and support quality relationships with schools. A clearer criteria and guidelines for partnership resulted, with the belief that the city’s stakeholders will be more encouraged to work in schools and to form lasting partnerships between community-based organizations and Providence Public Schools that benefit teaching and learning.

Public education is the collective work of the entire Providence community. With students from all over the world coming together every day to learn and grow, it is essential that all of the diverse and rich experiences are recognized and appreciated both inside and outside of our city’s schools. All community organizations, parents and dedicated community members must invest in educating our city’s youth and help make Providence Schools a better place for the children.
